Koski, Shirley (aka Callan)
August 26, 1935-November 3, 2021
We are saddened to announce Shirley’s passing in Drayton Valley, AB at the age of 86.
Shirley was born on August 26, 1935 to Art & Edna (Jackson) Koski. She was raised in Rocky Mountain House, AB where she met and married Dave Callan in 1952. Together, they raised four children on farms in Alberta, Saskatchewan (Rapid View) and BC (Lumby).
Shirley forged her path with hard work and good, old-fashioned, farm-sense – she was never one to shy away from doing “man’s work” and participated actively in life on the farm. She enjoyed dancing at jams, visiting with her friends, playing cribbage and caring for all creatures great & small. Later in life, she completed training and practiced as a nurses’ aid. She was renowned for her home-made bread, pancakes, raspberries on ice cream, her huge vegetable garden & the care and feeding of her animals (daily breakfast porridge for her dogs).
Shirley knew the importance of making memories, and led by example in creating lasting memories with all those around her, especially the ones she loved the most.
Shirley leaves behind her partner of 9 years, Merv Wihlidal; children Diane Carleton and David Callan, twelve grandchildren, her extended family & many friends. Shirley was predeceased by two of her children; Edna Mae Hansen (2017), Joyce Lorraine Conway (2019) and her brother Marvin Arthur Koski (1983).
We would like to gratefully acknowledge the care received from the Drayton Valley hospital.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2021 in the Affinity Funeral Service Chapel, 5001 45 Avenue, Drayton Alberta, at 11:00 am.
