It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Shirley Isabel MacDonald, age 87, of Howie Centre, on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
Born December 26, 1933, in Halls Harbour, NS, Shirley was the daughter of the late William C. and Isabel B. (Warner) Rogers. At the age of 11, she moved to Catalone in Cape Breton.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Terrance (Tanya), George(Maureen) and Glenn; daughter, Sharon; grandchildren, Jenny (Jordan), Kyle (Amy) and Marcus (Summer); great-grandchildren, Elijah, Wyatt and Emma; and brother-in-law, John.
She was predeceased by her husband, George W.; sisters, Lois and Marie; brothers, Lawrence (R.D.) and Richard (Rachel); granddaughter, Vicki; and great-granddaughter, Autumn.
Shirley was a loving lady, a great wife and wonderful mother who will be greatly missed. She loved gardening, enjoyed keeping her house and car clean, loved shopping for shoes and purses and her favorite colour was blue. At age 72, Shirley learned to use a computer sending e-mails and playing the card game solitaire for hours on her desktop computer. Growing up on a farm, she always had a love for horses and dogs. Shirley was a long-time member of the Jehovah Witness Hall on Alexander Street in Sydney.
Shirley’s family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Hall, as well as the VON and Home Care staff for years of valuable care that allowed her to live out her life where she wanted to be, at home. Also thank you to the staff at the Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Lisa McGuiness and the fantastic staff in the Palliative Care Unit.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a graveside service for the late Shirley Isabel MacDonald will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
