HANKINSON, Shirley Josephine
Passed peacefully, at Water’s Edge, North Bay on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. She was 89 years old. Shirley was predeceased by her first husband Jerrad Hamilton (1978), her second husband Gerald Hankinson (2012), her daughter Cheryl Hamilton (1968) and her great-grandson in infancy Clarence Hummel (2006).
She was the loved mother of Haarlem “Hal” Hamilton (Susie) of Restoule, Wayne Hamilton (the late Brenda) of Restoule, Everette Armstrong (Fay) of North Bay, Ron Hamilton (Rita) of North Bay, Bruce Hamilton (Margaret) of Restoule, Marlene Limpright (Craig) of Coldwater and Myron Hamilton (Frances) of Orillia; and stepmother of Dawn Morris of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Bill Hankinson (Rita) of Scarborough, Marlene Hankinson of Le Duc, Alberta and Suzanne Dusome (David) of St. Albert, Alberta. She will be lovingly remembered by 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley was the dear sister of Merrill Armstrong (Joanne) of Sault Ste. Marie and was predeceased by her siblings Vance Grawbarger, Hilda Lamb, Joan Long and infant sister Iris.
Shirley worked at Hoffman’s General Store and Canada Post in Restoule. She was a devoted member of the Restoule United Church and later Corner Gospel Church. Shirley worked alongside Gerry in running the Commanda Museum during the summers. She enjoyed taking part in Restoule activities such as Euchre games and the Winter Carnivals. Shirley participated in Twelfth of July parades alongside her first husband Jerrad. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with Gerry. Shirley was a wonderful cook and baker and could make a meal from nothing! “Love you mom and will miss you and the history you passed on to us”.
Due to COVID-19 limitations, a restricted capacity funeral service will take place at Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The service will be available via ZOOM (See NOTES below for link). YOU MUST PREREGISTER FOR THIS SERVICE. Please contact us NO LATER THAN TWO HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SERVICE for assistance in registration. We cannot guarantee assistance any closer to the service start.
