CALDER, Shellard Turnbull
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Shellard Turnbull Calder, our Dad, Grandfather, friend, confidant and pillar of the community. He passed away peacefully at hospital on Wednesday, July 14th in his 94th year. Predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Annie Ferguson (2006), daughter Suzanne (1969), parents Robert Bernard and “Lottie” Charlotte Mercer (nee Shellard) Calder and siblings Johnny (Audrey nee Brown), George (Ruth nee Green), Elizabeth (Earl Moore) and Catherine (Gordon Isbister). Dear father of Liz Desjardins and Shelley Yeudall (Andrew), grandfather of Danielle (Dee Dee) Desjardins, Brian Desjardins, Ryan Calder Yeudall, Mark Shellard Yeudall and John Eric Yeudall, and great grandson Wyatt Wilson. His family was so very important to him. He will be greatly missed by many cousins (Elanor Calder) and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Shellard was a strong community member and lifetime resident of Carluke, living on the Calder Family Farm, established in 1842. He was a lifetime Elder of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Carluke. He served his church and community, reaching out with lots of phone calls, serving as the Sunday School Superintendent, chairman of Board of Managers and teammate at the Fish Fry. Shellard was readily available to assist wherever there was a need, anything from set up and parking at the church or garbage detail at the fairgrounds. As a lifetime member at the Ancaster Agricultural Society he served on many committees alongside his wife. He worked on the farm all his life with dairy, beef cattle, egg route, cash crop and most recently known for his quality garlic and squash garden. Affectionately called “Shell” at Dofasco, he retired in 1990 after 34 years of service in the Materials Handling Department. He was an active Masson of Seymour Lodge #272, Ancaster Keystone Chapter and the Hamilton Scottish Rite. A hard working, community minded man who will be missed in many circles. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11:00am at the Ancaster Fairgrounds, 630 Trinity Rd. S., Jerseyville, with visitation at Miller Funeral Chapel, Caledonia, Friday, July 30, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm, with a Masonic service at 7:30pm. Cremation has already taken place.
