It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Vern Schubert of Rolly View, Alberta at the age of 72.
Born in Edmonton in 1949, Vern spent his early years on the farm in both Rolly View and Wetaskiwin. The family moved to Edmonton for his high school years and shortly after he met his wife of 49 years – Betty. Soon after marriage Vern and Betty moved to Prince George, BC to start their lives. Early on Vern found a passion for snowmobiling and became a key member and eventually the President of the Prince George snowmobile club helping build their first clubhouse. Vern and Betty spent 13 years in Prince George where they welcomed their three children. Fun times were had through all the years with kids growing up and camping, boating and fishing replaced snowmobiling. After a short stop in Kelowna BC the family moved back to Edmonton to be closer to both sides of the family.
Vern continued with a successful sales career with Balon Corporation making lasting impressions on coworkers and customers alike. Many new and lasting friendships were made along the way. Upon retirement Vern and Betty relocated back to the community of Rolly View where he became an active member of the community association including time on the Executive Committee. He enjoyed spending his free time participating in the senior’s floor curling league alongside Betty, socializing over a drink, talking shop, or cutting his lawn. He always had time to break out a deck of cards to play a round or two of Durak with his grandkids.
Despite his often tough and gruff exterior Vern had a soft side not everyone got to see. Along with his love for his wife, he loved his animals. Dinner bells for the cats and always a treat for the dog in his pocket – he spoiled them all.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Betty; Daughter Brenda (David) VanLeeuwen; Sons Michael (Chandra) Schubert and Trevor (Christine) Schubert; His grandchildren Kayla (Mike) Stauffer; Ben Van Leeuwen; Lawson, Anna and James Schubert; Great grandson Elijah Stauffer and Sisters Irene Wegner; Doris (Alfred) Kneller; and Elizabeth (Bill) Reid; numerous other friends and family.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rolly View.
