WIPER, Sarah Louise; Passed away on Thursday, September 9th, 2021 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, at the age of 61. Sarah is survived by her son Alex (Paiten). Sister of the late Peggy Anne, David (Liz), Virginia (the late Gary, late John David “Boots”), Janice (Fred), and Jimmy (Nancy). Predeceased by her parents Jim and Peggy Wiper (nee Kerr). Survived by her beloved cat Oda and “sister-niece” Jean (Ken). Sarah was a supremely talented and innovative papier mache artist who created life size 3-D versions of famous figures and paintings such as “The Scream “ and Picasso’s “Dora Maar et Chat” (see below and her Instagram profile “joyful_._kitty_._kitty” for some of her portfolio). Sarah won top prizes for her Farini, the Niagara tight rope walker at the Port Hope annual fall fair and most recently, after surgery in 2019, embraced body positive art which she shared to the delight of the gyno-oncological team at Lakeridge Health. Sarah had several works in progress at the time of her passing, including a very timely and appropriate version of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “The Warrior”.
Sarah will be dearly missed by her paper mâché people, and other family and friends, including those she met most recently at PRHC who spoke at her bedside in her last moments of Sarah’s genuine warmth and appreciation for others. For instance, when Sarah recovered this past spring from a bout in the ICU at PRHC and regained her voice, her first thought was to inquire about her sister Virginia’s health as Virginia had recently undergone significant surgery while Sarah herself was in the ICU.
In addition to her artistic and creative skills and open heart, Sarah was endlessly patient to provide IT help desk support for her siblings, made friends wherever she journeyed and made the world a better place for her presence, having taught her somewhat repressed WASP family the courage to say “I Love You” in her frequent phone conversations. Her EQ was off the charts, arguably in the “genius” category.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In Sarah’s memory, donations may be made to the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society through the funeral home. Condolences may be made online at www.CommunityAlternative.ca
