Obituary
Sarah Ellen Pope (“Sheila”) passed away peacefully October 23, 2021 at the age of 86. She was born February 14, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was married to Ross Pope on February 6th, 1954, who has been a dedicated husband for 67 years and remained by her side until the very end. Sheila was a devout Catholic who lived her life ‘one day at a time’. Her door was always open and welcoming. Sheila spent the early years of her life in northwestern Ontario and made many family memories with their cabin ventures including her most treasured memories of Finlayson Lake. Sheila had an entrepreneurial spirit and was always ready to take on a new challenge. She had many careers throughout her life including driving instruction, wig shop, and collection agency. In 1977, after relocating her family from Atikokan, Ontario to BC, she helped build a successful auto mechanic business with Ross and finished her working career as a real estate agent. Sheila lived throughout BC before finally settling in Kelowna where she enjoyed her many grandchildren and dedicated many years of her life to youth counseling, Girl Guides, and her community. Sheila is survived by her loving husband Ross Pope; her 6 children Patrick (Gloria), Michelene O’Neill (Pat), Jim (Patsy), Julie Cox (Grant), Tim (Lynn) and Gary Whitfield (Zenieda); her 11 grandchildren Christle, Janelle, Kevin, Kristy, Sonya, Jamie, Steven, Curt, Jeff, Chelsea, and Eric; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Florence Baldwinson and Pat Jones. At Sheila’s request there will be a family gathering to celebrate her life. She will be missed. We loved her dearly.
