SANDERSON: William Clarence “Bill” “Sandy”, 95, of New Hamburg and formerly of London passed away at Nithview Home, New Hamburg on Saturday, February 27, 2021.
He was born at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on May 7, 1925 a son of the late William and Alma (Porteous) Sanderson.
He had served in the Canadian Air Force, as a police officer in Winnipeg and London prior to serving as a Fire Fighter in London, Ontario from 1948-1985 where at the time of his retirement was a Platoon Chief. He was a 50 year member of St. John’s Lodge A.F. & A.M. #209 in London, a member of the Army, Navy & Air Force Veteran’s of London and New Hamburg Memorial Branch #532 Royal Canadian Legion.
Bill is survived by his wife Susan Ottilia (Riehl) (Ankenmann) Sanderson whom he married at Stratford on Novemeber 14, 1987; his son David Sanderson and partner Penny Plourde; his grandson Jeffrey Sanderson and partner Matthew George; two step-sons, Bradley Ankenmann, Gregroy “Greg” Ankenmann and wife Kristene; four step-grandsons, Tade, Hadyn, Karsen and Masen Ankenmann; his sister, Eva Hill; “Riehl” sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence Riehl, Mona and Donald Doerner, Carlton and Pamela Riehl, Brenda and Barry Eckstein, Linda and David Murray, Judy and Gary Schellenberger and Joanne Ballantyne.
He was predeceased by his step-son, Michael Ankenmann; his sister, Margaret Adams; his brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Mary Sanderson and his brothers-in-law, Jack Hill, George Adams, Laurie Riehl and Barry Ballantyne.
Due to Covid restrictions a private visitation and service will be held in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock. The Rev. Andy Schroth will officiate. Cremation to follow.
