S Murray Elves Friday April 9th 2021

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Stanley Murray Elves passed away peacefully on April 9, 2021.
Murray is survived by his wife, Rita (nee Rayner); his siblings, Jean (Al Storey, deceased), Vivian (Carlie Gustafson) and Lynn Elves (Shirley); his children, Lee-Anne (Robert van Leeuwen), Arlene (Ed MacIver), and Lynda (Andrew McFarlane); his grandchildren, Timothy, Colleen, Stephanie, Terra, Shawna, Scott, and Amelya; and great grandchildren, Hailey, Faith, Belle and Donavan. Predeceased by his parents, Alice Murray Elves, and Stanley James Elves; and his grandchildren, Jamie, and Keith.
Born in Carman, Manitoba on October 14, 1936, he spent his early years working on the family farm in Sanford. After a year of studies at the University of Manitoba, Murray applied to become a member of the RCMP. This started his lifelong career. His career started with nine months of training in Ottawa with his troop mates in Troop 27. This was the beginning of many lifelong friendships. After being stationed in several Saskatchewan towns, he applied to join the crime lab, which meant going back to university where he graduated with a degree in Bio Chemistry. By the time he graduated, Murray and Rita had two daughters; Lee-Anne and Arlene, and were on their way to New Brunswick. Over the next several years, there were moves to Winnipeg and Regina where he was in charge of the crime labs in those provinces. In addition, Murray and Rita welcomed their youngest daughter Lynda. Upon retiring, Murray worked a few years at the Bank of Canada.
Murray and Rita enjoyed their retirement traveling and spending many winters in Florida getting away from the cold weather. Murray enjoyed many activities and sports such as baseball, square dancing and hockey. He also enjoyed doing volunteer work for those in the community. Upon moving to Ottawa in their retirement Murray and Rita enjoyed many happy times with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Murray was a devoted husband, father, Poppa, Uncle, and friend. Family was everything to him and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Samson, the home nurses, PSW’s, friends and family who made it possible for him to be at home surrounded by family during his final weeks of life.
Due to the restrictions of Covid -19, a private family visitation will be held followed by a Memorial Service on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 1:00p.m. Extended family and friends are invited to join the service via the livestream link (link to be added by service day).
