AT AGE 100
ALLEN, Ruth May – It is with gratitude for a life of 100 years that the family of Ruth May Allen announce her passing to a new life with her Lord on August 17, 2021. She passed peacefully in Wolfville Nursing Home amid the singing of many of her favourite hymns.

Arriving in Kingston, NS, in 1948, with her husband and first three children Ruth taught at Kingston Bible College Academy (KBCA). She went on to share her musical talent as a violinist serving as a music teacher with schools in Pictou County and Dartmouth and was instrumental in laying foundations to the music department of the Halifax School Board. She supported music ministries in many churches as well as accompanying the New Song Singers for seven years. Ruth also enjoyed her years with the Chebucto Orchestra. Her musical legacy lives on in the musical accomplishments of her former students, her children and grandchildren.
Following retirement from teaching Ruth took up needlepoint and crocheting. For decades every new grandchild was welcomed with a carefully made Afghan. Ruth also had a green thumb, and her gardens were always carefully planned and well-tended. She particularly loved the gardens at Ebb Tide Cottage in Margaretsville, spending many days there with her dear friend, Derreth Coulstan.
Ruth was the family Matriarch faithfully remembering birthdays, hosting Easter teas and Christmas dinners, recording stories of the family history, writing letters, sharing words of hope, encouragement, and praying without ceasing.
Ruth was supported throughout her life by her unwavering faith in Jesus to the end. She was a supporter of charitable causes and Christian organizations and had a special interest in supporting children’s missions worldwide.
