Obituary of Ruby Scratch (nee Nead)
Of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, in her 100th year. Beloved wife for over 73 years to the late Ray N. Scratch (2019). Dearly loved mother of Barbara Harvey (Murray), Donna Lewis, and Janis Proud (Ted Lyons). Cherished grandmother of Darren Harvey (Helen), Chad Harvey (Heather), Mike Lewis, Mark Lewis, Sarah Robles (Nino), and April Proud (Ian Clark). She was blessed with and very proud of her 9 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Edith Coulter. Also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to her husband, Ruby was predeceased by an infant son, David, and by five brothers and three sisters. Born in Tilbury East Twp., Kent Co, ON, October 1, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Zelma (née Robinson) Nead. She and Ray moved to St. Thomas from Leamington, ON in 1959. Ruby was a member of Central United Church where she was a member of the Wo He Lo Group. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Elmdale Memorial Park, St. Thomas. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to the STEGH Foundation or Central United Church will be gratefully acknowledged. Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
The family would like to thank the staff of Metcalfe Gardens and 4th floor STEGH for their care and compassion. Special thank you goes to Dr. David Gregory and Kathy Gilchrist for the excellent care they extended to mom and dad for many years.
