Obituary of Ruby Feltham
~ “The purity of a mother’s love is unconditional, and strong, it weaves
through the generations of her family who follow through time” ~
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts, that the family of the late Ruby Catherine Feltham (nee Sheaves) announces her passing at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre on March 6, 2021, at the age of 72 years, with her loving family by her side.
Born in the community of Mouse Island, Port aux Basques, NL, Ruby was the daughter of the late Percy and Mary (nee Strickland) Sheaves. She was most recently predeceased by her late husband, Calvin Baxter Feltham in 1995; daughter, Sherry Lee May Feltham in 2018 and brother, Bernard Percy Sheaves in 2021.
Ruby was an extraordinary woman- a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, wife, aunt and friend. She was well loved by many and blessed with a close-knit family. She spoke with a gentle and kind tone and at the same time, was incredibly wise and strong. She faced adversity with courage and strength, always placing the needs of others above her own. She worked hard all her life, while raising four successful children. Ruby valued relationships with her family and always prioritized nurturing them. She will be warmly remembered for her calming presence and the simple things she enjoyed in life- a long chat on the phone, sharing a good story, having her cup of tea, listening to Newfoundland music and spending time with those who mattered most to her.
She will be forever loved and missed by her sons, Duane (Donna) Feltham of Moncton, NB; Shawn (Ellen) Feltham of Port aux Basques, NL and her daughter, Paula (Michael) Feltham-Hodder of Cambridge, NS, along with her five beautiful grandchildren who loved and adored her – Christian Hodder; Kezia, Kristofer and Katrina Feltham; and Robin Osmond. Her warm presence and spirit will forever be with them.
Ruby also leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, her brothers and sisters, Henry (Darlene) Sheaves, Theodore Sheaves, the late brother Stuart, Loretta (Edward) Patey, Maggie (Colin) Garnier (Stephenville, NL), late sister Eileen and her Aunt Maggie White (Hamilton, ON), along with her brothers and sisters-in-laws Marina Sheaves, Betty Osmond, Dolly (Nathan) Seymour, Grace (Jim) Hinks, the late Mylida (Jim) Kettle, the late Elizabeth (Robert) Norton (Sudbury, ON), Wilfred (the late Laura) Feltham and Jean Feltham (Thompson, MB), Daniel Feltham (Diane Alley) and the late, John (Mary) Feltham, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces and her dear friend, John and his family.
The family would like to thank the oncology physicians and nurses at the Health Sciences Cancer Clinic in St. John’s, NL, as well as the staff at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre for the kindness and care provided to our mother at the end of her life. Also, a special mention to Marina Sheaves who assisted our mother throughout her illness, and or other family members and friends who comforted our mother in time of need. Truly, there are no words that can express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude.
In keeping with Ruby’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 9,2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Church, with Joan Chaisson officiating, with interment at Wesley United Cemetery, followed by a reception at Wesley United Church Hall. Donations in Ruby’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Oceanside Funeral Home in Port Aux Basques.
