Ruby Winnifred Rose Watkins (nee Horwood)
1935-2021
It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that
the family of the late Mrs. Ruby Watkins (nee Horwood) announces her
passing. Ruby passed away suddenly but peacefully at Lakeside Homes in
Gander on March 7, 2021 at the age of 85 years. Ruby was predeceased
by her parents: John and Annie Horwood; husband Roy; brothers: Hubert,
James and Ralph (Marion) Horwood; brothers-in-law: Hubert Jenkins,
Fred (Lucy) Watkins and Elmo (Rose) Watkins; sisters-in-law: Mae
(Cyril) Jenkins and Evelyn (Thomas)
Churchill.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of beautiful and
loving memories are her devoted children: Margaret (Don) Harvey, Kathy
(Larry Dickison) Watkins, and Janice (Ed) Simms; grandchildren: Dana,
Jennifer (Justin), Zack (Teri-Lynn), Rebecca (Will), Ian and Aidan;
great-grandchildren: Jack, Lauren and Meredith; brother Melvin
(Marjorie) Horwood; sister Marjorie Jenkins; sister-in-law Rowena
Horwood; brother-in-law William (Claudine) Watkins; as well as a large
circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ruby was a
gentle, kind-hearted and hard-working woman who went above and beyond
for her family and friends. Her home was always welcoming to family
and friends (old and new) and she took great pleasure in preparing
lunches and meals for others. No one was a stranger in Mom’s
house. She was truly an angel among us. Ruby had great faith in God
and she was a long-time member of the Salvation Army Corps in
Twillingate. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to
the wonderful caregivers at Nightingale Manor and Lakeside Homes in
Gander where Mom spent the last several
years.
In lieu of flowers and in keeping with
Mom’s love of helping others, donations in her memory can be
made to the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign. In light of the
current COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our families and
our community continues to be our highest priority. At this time there
will be a private family funeral service held from Isles Funeral Home,
Twillingate on Saturday, March 13 at 1 pm. A condolence message for
