Ross Edward Long, U.E.
October 19th 1918 – July 3rd 2021
Ross passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2021, in his 103rd year. Predeceased by his parents Russell H. Long and Janet Long (Weese), his loving wife of 40 years Madge Long (Keech), his brothers Ken Long and Brydon Long. Survived by sister Mary Parks of Napanee, his sons James Long (Maureen) of Collins Bay, Edwin Long (Joyce) of Bellevueve KY. Grandchildren, Karissa Long Cupito (Brad) of Miami FL, David Long of Collins Bay, Jen Long Wildroudt (Joey) of Rocky River OH, Annette Long (Brad) of Napanee, Ryan Long (Katie) of Raliegh NC, Daniel Long (Emily) of Cincinnati OH. Great-grandchildren Miller Joseph Wildroudt, Ellis Ross Wildroudt, Elodie Lilienne Long and Samuel James Haaksman. Ross was born in a log cabin north of Tamworth in 1918 and then moved east of Napanee to Fairview farm. During the great depression, Ross and his family lost their farm. At 13 years old, his family moved to Camden Rd Napanee, where Ross lived until he was over 100 years old. Ross worked for a year and a half at Gibbards Napanee before starting at Acme Farmers Dairy, where he stayed for the next 49 years. Ross was a proud member for 39 years with the Retail, Wholesale Union of America, local #477. A 40 year member of the Independent order of Oddfellows Lodge #86 Napanee. Ross enjoyed nothing more than antique and classic cars, his most favourite being the 1929 Model “A” Ford. He was a 55 year member of the Antique and Classic car club of Canada. A 30 year member of the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada, Ross was proud of his strong Loyalist roots in the local Napanee area. Ross was a loyal 89 year member of Grace United Church Napanee, where he enjoyed many happy times during coffee hour and birthday parties with those he considered his family. A strong fan of the Napanee Raiders and always enjoyed “Pre-Raider suppers” at Spuds with family and friends before a hockey game. Lots of laughs and good meals were shared between Ross and his friends at the S.O.S. diners lunches, thanks to many volunteers. Ross loved the Town of Napanee and enjoyed nothing more than meeting up with relatives, friends and neighbours at his home on Camden Road. He lived through many hardships and difficult times in the world but always managed to find the silver lining in every situation. Ross was a unique soul, blessed with a creative mind and the most determined spirit. Ross’ legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched. A life well lived, well loved. Never to be forgotten and forever missed by family and many friends. May he forever rest in eternal peace. A special thank you to those who supported Ross, especially in the last few years and those who made it possible for Ross to live at home until 100 years old, that includes The Smile program, Seniors Outreach Services, meals on wheels, The SELIHN care providers, a special thanks to Shelia and Lorraine for their excellent care. To his friend Leslie Sweet for her visits. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Friendly Manor, Deseronto and the staff from all departments. The family will receive friends at the HANNAH FUNERAL HOME in Napanee on Wednesday evening July 7 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Please call the funeral home (613-354-3341) in advance during business hours to arrange a time for attendance to comply with maximum attendance numbers. Masks are mandatory. A private family service will be held on Thursday with interment at Riverview Cemetery in Napanee. Memorial donations (by cheque please) made to Grace United Church, Property Fund would be appreciated by the family.
