“The Heart of a Rose”
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to countless others, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of November 6th, 2021.
Celebrating Rose’s love of life and family, we remember Rose for being kind, supportive, and welcoming to all regardless of life’s circumstances. Working for decades in the BC horse racing industry, Rose’s love for the horses and the industry was well known and shared throughout the wide circle of her family, friends and co-workers.
Born in Valleyview, AB to John and Thelma Alm, the family of five siblings soon after moved to Mara, BC with Rose and older brother John attending a one room schoolhouse for Grade 1. The following school year saw the family put down roots in Lumby on Old Mill Road where the siblings stayed to complete their schooling. From there she met her (then) husband Frederick Jarnell and had 2 children, moving to the Lower Mainland of Vancouver and having another child, completing her family. Rose soon became a single mother in an era where that was uncommon and persevered through strenuous times to raise her children.
Rose always loved the Okanagan and fulfilled her dream of returning to the Valley in 1991, remaining there to welcome several grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Rose loved living in and travelling the mountains and countryside, fishing, exploring new places and being a snowbird to Arizona each winter.
Predeceased by younger brother Mark, survived by brother John (Linda), Peter (Maxine), sister Diane (Ron), children Fred, Holly (Jerry), Rick (Tracy), grandchildren Tj (Jessie), Johnny (Nicole), Kyle, Cynthia, Christina and great-granddaughter Isabella. Aunt to Gordon, Wendy who was there for Rose over many years, Sherree, Louise, Lisa, Lori, Javan, Julie, Laurie, Chris, Christy, Natalie and long-time companion Norris.
Rose as a loving soul always expected and received hugs from family and friends and took enough photos to last a life time. We as her family, continue to do the same following the direction Rose provided us.
