Ron Reid 1941 –

Ron Reid
April 16, 1941 – August 16, 2021
With deep sadness we announce the death of our dear father, brother and uncle. He was a very special guy and the memories we have will be treasured. Ron had a carefree and happy childhood in Princeton B.C. At 18 years of age, he started an electrical apprenticeship with Bett’s Electric in Penticton. He branched out on his own, starting Reid’s Electric in 1968.
In 1962 he became a father. He would become the backbone of the family. The quiet supporter, the man of few words, the handyman who would build a cottage at Osprey Lake, wire a house, and fix anything, the man who taught us to fish, rockhound (we collected many rocks on our various hikes), the storyteller of his childhood and the local historian of the small town we were born in, curler, and the one who would take us to all the beautiful places in the interior of British Columbia whenever we visited. He worked hard and played hard, enjoying the outdoors and his family and friends. He was a people person who could and would talk to anyone.
During this time Ron became a dedicated Volunteer with the Princeton Fire Department. He joined in 1964, became an officer in 1968 and Chief in 1977.
In 1988 Ron decided it was time for a new challenge and accepted a job with the Electrical Safety Branch for the province of B.C. He worked in the Cranbrook and Kelowna offices for several years before retirement brought him back to his happy place at Osprey Lake.
Never one to be idle Ron enjoyed volunteering his time to the Osprey Ratepayers Association and the Osprey Snow Wheelers Club.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Al and Vera Reid, and sadly 2 wives. Joan Reid and Valerie Reid (x2).
He is survived by his 4 children: Lory Green (Craig), Waterdown, Ontario; Wayne Reid (Kelci), Kamloops, B.C.; Daniel Reid, (Carolynn), Caledon, Ontario, and Michael Reid (Corinne), Richmond Hill, Ontario; 6 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild, his sister and brother-in-law Jack and Linda Angstadt, Kamloops; and his faithful 4-legged companion Susie.
Ron spent the last 4 months of his life at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice in Kamloops. Life had become challenging, but he kept his upbeat attitude to the end. If anyone entered his room and said “How are you today” his reply would be “Just Wonderful” with a little smirk.
He will be sadly missed.
There will be a celebration of life for Ron in 2022 when the family can gather. Date to be determined.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Hospice House for the very special care that Ron received.
In lieu of flowers donations to Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice in Kamloops, B.C will be gratefully accepted.
