It is with great sadness that we, the family of Roland John Zablaskie announce his peaceful passing at home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Florence on August 10, 1945, Rollie was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Zablaskie.
Rollie started his sailing career on the lake boats with CSL at a young age, then moved to Vancouver, where he joined Local 400 in 1978. After a long career on the tugs, sailing to China, Vietnam, and countless points in between. Rollie retired in 2010 from Seaspan and returned home to Cape Breton in 2012, where he spent his time with family and friends.
Rollie made a lot of friends through his travels. He enjoyed sitting and talking about old times with a few great friends that will miss him dearly; Art Arsenault, Ernie Tremblett, Martin Leman and Teddy Marsh. People that knew Rollie loved him. He was known for his kind heart, always giving and helping others.
Rollie will be sadly missed by his brothers George (Verlie), Louisburg, Peter (Helen), and Vistor, sister Cathy (Walter) Jellow, Florence, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, a nephew he held close to his heart, and thought of as a son, Peter.
Besides his parents, Rollie was predeceased by his brother John.
His family would like to give special thanks to Palliative Care, VON nurses, Dr. Kohlsmith and EMS.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021, at 1 pm in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or. Due to Covid restrictions, seating in the church is limited. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
