Roger Poirier
1934 – 2021
Moncton – Roger Poirier, 87, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
Born in Richibucto, NB, he was the son of the late Tilmon and the late Madeleine Poirier.
Roger was well known in the automotive parts industry. In his early years, he could be found on many a Saturday, with a kid or two in tow, answering an after-hours parts call for his customers.
Those who knew Roger, knew of his passion for hockey. His most memorable moments were the times spent with the Roadrunners. Whether it was a local tournament or traveling overseas, little did they know that the bond being created would lay the foundation for this extended family that still exists today.
After retirement, Roger could be found volunteering at St. Bernards Church, doing whatever odd jobs needed to be done. Roger also worked for the Wildcats for many years, and could often be found in the penalty box or goal judge.
Roger’s biggest claim to fame, however, was being Papa to his grandchildren. Whether it was chauffeuring to school, sporting events, or the movies, Pops was always available to participate in the daily events of his grandchildren. He truly was their biggest fan.
Roger will be sadly missed by his children: Rick Poirier (Shelley), Michelle Poirier (Randy Smith) and Shary Jones (Travis) all of Moncton; his siblings: Leonard Poirier (Gladys) of Edmonton, AB, Leatha LeBlanc of Riverview and Paulette Bourque (Peter) of Rothesay; his grandchildren: Madison, Owen, Nathan and Katie; his special friend, Jack Cameron; also by several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Poirier (nee Bovard); his two brothers: Bob and Raymond.
Visitation will be held at Passage Funeral Chapel (625 Mountain Road, Moncton), on Sunday, July 11, 2021, from 1pm to 3pm. There will be no visitation on Monday. Funeral service will be held at St. Bernard RC Church in Moncton, on Monday, July 12, 2021, at 2 pm, with a maximum of 60 to 80 people.
