Roger Pelkey
1938-2021
Following a brief covid related illness Roger Hugh Pelkey passed away
at the Upper River Valley Regional Hospital (Waterville) early Sunday
morning, October 10, 2021.
Roger was born in Andover NB, on February 11, 1938. He was the son of
the late Howard and Gwendlyn (Griffith) Pelkey. Roger was the third of
their four children: Elva McLaughlin, Rufus (deceased 2017), and
Adrian. At the age of eight Roger’s mom died and Howard married
Alice (Swazey) adding six more siblings; Doreen, Martin, Donita, Ben,
Dianne, and Larry.
Roger leaves behind his wife Mabel (Gardiner) the love of his life for
the past 63 years; two sons Calvin (Rachel) of New Maryland, NB and
Peter (Darla) of South Esk, NB; four grandchildren Chris (Jill) &
Katie Hazzard (Chris), Erica Lumsden (Jacob) & Luke and one very
special great grandson who brightened his life for the past two and
one-half years, Owen Hazzard.
Roger loved his God, and both his natural and church families. He
loved to have family around and always looked forward to the annual
“Roger’s Father’s Day” BBQ. He was a large
part of the building of the original and present Calvary Tabernacle
construction projects. He instilled his love of God and support for
his church in his family by ensuring “if the doors were open, we
were going”.
Roger was never a by-stander and always worked to better his
community. He served on multiple boards and councils being very proud
to be a Red Liberal because as he often said, “they are the
party that cares for the little guy”. He ran as a Liberal
candidate in ’74 and ’76 and served as the VP of the
provincial party. His hobby and passion was politics!
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation. A
celebration of Roger’s life will be held at a later date once the
restrictions are lifted and the family can gather.
For those who wish, memorial donations to Calvary Tabernacle or a
charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the
family.
The family wants to extend a heart felt thank you to the staff of the
CCU at Waterville for their support and compassion shown us during
this very hard time for both the family and medical personnel.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home,
Perth-Andover, NB.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Roger Pelkey 19382021..
Death notice for the town of: Perth-Andover, Province: Nouveau-Brunswick
