The Lord has answered our prayers and called Roger LUFKIN to his heavenly home. Just shy of his 92nd birthday, it was clear that Roger was ready to make his final trip. He passed quietly and comfortably in his sleep, with family by his side, early on November 3, 2021.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Georgie, and three children: Denis (Johnnie) Lufkin, Patricia (Bill) Harrison and Paul (Tracy) Lufkin; 7 grandchildren: Ford Howard, Cody (Heather) Vossler, Corey Harrison, Tyler Harrison, Chad (Christina) Harrison, Josh Lufkin and Matthew Lufkin; sister, Betty Bens (Coquitlam, BC); sisters-in-law, Carmen Tellier Smith (Les), Evelyn Redford (Ralph) and Yvette Tellier (Mat 2017) as well as many other cherished relatives and friends.
He is predeceased by his infant son, Richard (1961); granddaughter Sarah Nutt (2020) and siblings: Harold, Velma and Delmar.
Born November 17, 1929 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, Roger came to Edmonton as a young man, to ‘sow his wild oats’. He met and married the love of his life, Georgie, and they have enjoyed sharing life together for over 67 years. Roger was very active in the community, having served in various leadership capacities with the Edmonton Public Library, Knights of Columbus, the Alberta Apprenticeship Board, the Oil and Chemical Workers Union, St. Joseph Basilica, Westwind Estates Condominium Association and the Rosedale Resident Council.
Roger’s children get their entrepreneurial tendencies from their dad. Roger left big corporate in 1970 and started his own company. He sold that company many years later to start yet another! He retired in 1991 after developing a heart condition.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, an invitation only Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 6, 2021. A live stream of the service will begin at 10:30am MDT, which can be seen at www.RogerLufkin.com (Passcode: 2021).
For those who are interested, a visitation is being held at Connelly- McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton on Friday, November 5, 2021, 3-5pm. Interment will follow at a later date.
The family would especially like to extend their thanks to the staff at Rosedale Seniors Living and Dr. Tom Ranieri and his staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honour at the Roots of Change Foundation (www.rootsofchange.ca) or the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca).
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Roger Frederick Lufkin 2021..
