Robin Jane Richardson Gurr 2021

Death Notice
RICHARDSON (GURR), Robin Jane – Unexpectedly at University Hospital on Monday, May 31, 2021, Robin Jane Richardson (Gurr) of London age 70. Loving mother of Simon Gurr and his wife, Laura, proud Nana to Owen, Eddy, Morgan and Victoria. Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Claire Richardson. Fondly remembered by Jim Gurr.
Born in Sarnia, Robin had a larger than life personality and left a positive impact on everyone she met. Robin was very close to her parents throughout her life and was a dedicated daughter and caregiver until they passed away. Robin credited her parents for instilling a strong sense of integrity and teaching her to never shy away from a challenge.
Being a mother and grandmother was the most important thing to Robin. She was so proud of Simon and her grandchildren. Robin’s family will deeply miss her and forever remember how much she loved them. In honour of Robin, her family will continue to live their lives to the fullest.
Deeply empathetic and caring, Robin was a natural leader and a gifted teacher. Robin had a lengthy and distinguished teaching career in the former Board of Education for the City of London and then the amalgamated Thames Valley District School Board. Robin finished her career as a Learning Coordinator in Special Education and is still remembered for her strong advocacy for kids with special needs. Principals and teachers listened to and respected Robin. With a presence that was larger than life, she was a voice for kids and families that weren’t heard, a confidante to those seeking advice and a comfort to those seeking solace. She also taught at Western and travelled to help train teachers in developing countries.
Now that her grandchildren are in school, many of their teachers are former students who fondly remember Robin as their favourite teacher. Often former students would stop Robin to catch up with her and update her on their lives. She cherished those conversations.
Robin had the wonderful ability to connect and communicate with anyone. She will be deeply missed by her many friends, including Helen, Chrissy, Heather, and Leslie among many others. If you had the pleasure of meeting Robin, you would not easily forget her laughter and her big heart.

  1. Robin was our neighbour at Errol Beach. Your description of her here is spot on! We always enjoyed our glasses of wine with her sitting, looking at the water. Her laugh always made the visits fun. It was quite a shock to hear about her passing and we send our deep sympathies to Simon and his family.
