With great sadness, the family of Roberta announce her passing on Monday, April 12, 2021.
Loving wife of Bill Zyma, predeceased in 2012. She was the loving mother of five children, Robert of St. Charles; William (wife Charlene) of Sudbury; John of Espanola; Michael of Miami Florida; and Barbara of Sault Ste. Marie.
She was a much loved grandmother of nine – Amy Zyma of Sudbury; Shanna Savoie (Eric) of Val Caron; Katie Buell (Chris Mendl) of Smiths Falls; Shirley Buell of Cobourg; Cassandra Sauve (Aaron) of Sudbury; Morgan and Taylor Zyma of Lively; Evan and Emilie Chartrand of Sault Ste. Marie. She was a great grandmother of seventeen.
Born on December 09, 1933 to Robert and Myrtle Berardo, the second of five children. She was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and still regarded it as home. She is survived by her sister Barbara Carchidi (Dominic aka Hawk) and her brother Don (Carole predeceased) friend Lynn. She is predeceased by two brothers Mike, wife Joanne predeceased and Robert, wife Elaine.
She met her future husband Bill when he was visiting his sister who had met Roberta’s uncle during the second world war and married him.
Roberta and Bill were married in Creighton Mine in August of 1952 where they raised their five children and participated in many community activities, and joined in the Creighton reunions when their health allowed.
In 1983 they moved to Espanola to assist Bill’s mother and enjoyed the small community and have resided there since.
Roberta had a love of travel, especially visiting her son for winters in Florida, and was especially fond of Bingo, casinos and the shopping channel.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Espanola Helping Hands Food Bank would be appreciated.
In keeping with Roberta’s wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
A mass of Christian burial and memorial service will take place at a future date when covid restrictions are lifted.
Gone but never forgotten. We love you mom, grandma, nona, great gma.
