ROBERT WAYNE DIXON, 74, Eastern Passage NS
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Robert (Bob) Dixon announce his sudden passing on Friday, December 10, 2021.
Bob passed peacefully at home with his devoted wife, Linda, by his side and with his faithful dog, Lizzie, snuggled next to him.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late James and Muriel Dixon. Bob is survived by the love of his life, his wife Linda; daughters Barbara (Anthony), Eastern Passage; Deborah, Chezzetcook; sons Robert (Trisha), Chezzetcook; Jeffrey (Shannon}, Lake Echo; stepson Jason (Kim), Cold Lake, AB; sisters Marjorie and Judy. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by brothers Jimmy and Teddy.
“Grampy” was beyond proud of his grandchildren Justin, Bryce, Rachel, Laura, Kaitlyn, James, Brooke, Ella and Jacob. He enjoyed attending their basketball games, regattas, recitals, concerts and plays.
Over the past year Bob also lost three loves, his dogs Koco, Daisy and Biscuit who all lived spoiled and pampered lives of 15 and 16 years.
Bob loved spending time with his family and looked forward to family gatherings, especially the lobster parties! He will forever be fondly remembered for his ability to provide driving directions, which he would describe as, “drive until you get to the place that sold the really good lobster sandwiches, then turn right until you come to the place that has the fish and chips, turn left until you reach that place that sold the hot turkey sandwiches”. For many years, Bob and Linda would drive south for the winter and call Florida their home.
In his younger years, Bob spent much of his time stock car racing at Scotia Speedworld and accumulated several trophies and prizes over the years. His love of racing continued throughout his life, and he could always be found watching NASCAR on Sunday afternoons. Some of his greatest memories came from having the opportunities to drive race cars at both Daytona Speedway and Walt Disney World Speedway.
As a career burner mechanic, Bob became well known in the industry and eventually started his own business. He would often work through the night, no matter the weather, to ensure that families would not be cold in the winter and often without accepting payment for his services. His generosity was limitless, and he was the type of person who would go without to help others.
Bob will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, for his kindness, generosity, and gentle nature. Those who knew him well, knew of his love of country music, especially music by George Jones and Johnny Cash. At Bob’s request, a service will not be held, so we ask that you play some George or Johnny and raise a glass to our loving father, grandfather, and husband.
Cremation has taken place and a private family tribute will be held at a later date.
Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Dartmouth SPCA.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Robert Wayne Dixon January 20 1947 December 10 2021..
