Obituary for
Robert Owen “Bobby” Fredericks
Fredericks, Robert Owen “Bob” “Bobby” – Age 71, Masstown. It is with broken hearts that we, Robert, Amanda and Jessica, announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Robert Fredericks on October 28, 2021 at the age of 71.
Dad was the son of the late Owen and Margaret (Marge) Fredericks. He was born in Halifax on August 3, 1950 and was brought up in the North End of Halifax, living on Duffus Street in his early years.
Dad had the gift of gab which, we believe, led him to a career in sales. He traveled the Maritimes doing what he did best, talking and selling, making many new friends along the way. Working for Industrial Engineering Sales, RBO Equipment, of which Dad was the owner, and then retiring from CTR in Truro.
Dad was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Gloria Doris Fredericks (Beck) and by mother and father-in-law, Ellen and Lester Beck.
He is survived by sister, Marie (Barry) Dupuis, Bridgewater; son at home, Robert (Carla Quinn); daughters, Amanda (Steven) McRae and Jessica (Patrick Johnson). He was known as “Bigit” to his grandchildren, Michael and Jocelin McRae; step grandchildren, Kyla and Angela Walsh; step great grandchildren, Madison Walsh, Benjamin and Kendyl Park. Kendyl, who was known as “Girly”!
Also left to mourn are in-laws, Daphne (Joe) Millar, Edmonton, AB, Ruth (Darrell) Wells, Lower Sackville, Winetta (Scot) Coffin, Dartmouth, Geraldine Beck, Halifax, Edward (Joanne) Beck, Lower Sackville. Dad was also known as “Uncle Bobby” to many nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the people who came to visit with Dad or called him over the past few months just to check in with him. There are too many to list, but Dad told us each day who called or stopped in for a visit.
A hello goes out to Donna Blanchard and to Bobby Harris. Bobby, we were told that you need to be laughing by now as per Dad’s instructions to you during one of your calls to him.
Dad was a member of the Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade, the Masons for more than 40 years and the Fellowship Lodge# 112, Bible Hill over the past 10 years.
A thank you to Dad’s doctors, Dr. Idoko, Dr. Walsh and Dr. Colwell. Thank you to Colchester VON, it may have been a different nurse each time for the home visit, but the service and professionalism was the same on each visit. Colchester Palliative Care Team, you were with us every step of the way. Thank You. It’s a hard way to meet new people, but thank you, Dr. Farrell, Dr. Smith and nurse, Angela. Angela was a Godsend to our family in our time of need. She had the answers to our questions and made herself available when needed. A thank you also to the Masstown Guardian Pharmacy who looked after every request.
There will be no service or visitation as per Dad’s wishes. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Private interment at a later date in Masstown Cemetery.
Donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Fellowship Lodge# 112, c/o Robert Fredericks, 39 Rosewood Dr., Masstown, NS B0M 1G0. The donations will go toward the lodge’s bursary fund.
