It is with great sadness that we announce Robert’s peaceful passing on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 86 years of age. He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice Owen (nee Duncan) in 1990. He will be held forever in the hearts of his children Tom (Alicia) and Cindy (Jim Walerowich) and his grandchildren Christina and Jeremy Owen and Shannon and Rachel Cameron. He is also survived by his dearest friend Jean Wilson.
Bob graduated as a Certified General Accountant and worked at CN Rail for 43 years. He started at the age of 16 and travelled coast to coast with the company. It is while working for CN that he met his future wife Bernice, at Jasper Park Lodge, with whom he raised a family in Oshawa.
Bob was very involved in Baker Park youth sports in Oshawa for many years. After retirement, Bob was an avid fan and supporter of the Oshawa Generals, active at the Oshawa Senior Citizens Centre and loved to travel down to Florida and out East to the Maritimes. He always made time to visit one of his favourite places, Algonquin Park where he spent many days camping, canoeing and enjoying the Fall colours with family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Saint James Anglican in Manotick on Saturday, October 16th at 1pm. Following Covid protocol, attendance will be strictly limited to registered guests. Death notice for the town of: Ottawa, Province: Ontario
to all the Owen family and Jean,
It was with great sadness that we learned of Bob’s passing this week.
“Big Bob” was a significant member of the extended Henderson family. That was how we got to know him. And there were days of fun together at the beaches and around the campfires in the parks of Algonquin, and the cold, sunny days when we skated the Rideau Canal during Winterlude.
He was so proud of his family, and then he became grandfather. And boy, he enjoyed being a Grandpa!
We will all miss his steady, calming wisdom, his subtle humour and the joie de vivre he brought to everyone and every gathering.
Please accept our sincere condolences and know that we are thinking of you all.
Russ and Sue Brown
