COTTREAU, Robert Jules – age 93, Brenton, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Born February 8, 1928 in Yarmouth, he was the son of late Alcide and Ida (Doucet) Cottreau who were lighthouse keepers on the Bunkers Island “Bug Light” at the entrance to the Yarmouth Harbour where Robert and his siblings were raised. Robert worked for Marine Atlantic on the Yarmouth – Bar Harbour ferry for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying hunting, and sport fishing. He was a hobby farmer who was well-known in the community for his large bountiful gardens and his generous sharing of their produce. In his later years, he could often be found at the table carving wooden sailing boats which were treasured by family and friends, each one carved from to finish with a specific recipient in mind. Robert will be remembered as a compassionate, gentle and kind man who would without question immediately offer a helping hand to anyone he saw in need. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ethel (Amirault) Cottreau, children Lowell (Sharlene) Cottreau, Rebecca “Becky” Cottreau, Peter Cottreau and foster daughter Hope Hubbard; grandchildren Joshua (Andrea) Cottreau, Amanda Dempsey, Colin (Krys) Dempsey and great grandchildren Emily, Benjamin and Faye.
