“Bob” was the youngest of six children born in Vancouver to John Vernon (Vern) Roden and Eileen Elizabeth (Woods) Roden. Bob attended school at Notre Dame and Killarney and then enlisted with the RCAF and was stationed in Whitehorse and Edmonton. While stationed in Whitehorse Bob met his future wife, Elizabeth (Beth) Cunningham. They soon were married and 11 months after the wedding they welcomed their first daughter, Ramona.
