Robert Hopper September 26 2021

We announce, with great sadness, the peaceful passing of Bob Hopper, age 93, at Cassellholme LTC home in North Bay where he had moved in recent years to be closer to family.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Lynn (2013). He will be greatly missed by his daughter Sharon and son Randy. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Michelle (Matt), Miles and Brooklyn and great-grandchildren Ayda and Sam.
Born in Detroit, Michigan to parents Robert and Marguerite. Raised on Yonge Street, Toronto. (literally) Educated in the classrooms of Jessie Ketchum PS and Northern Secondary. Learned to skate on the outdoor rinks of St. Michael’s College. Discovered teamwork and competition on the baseball diamonds of West Toronto.
He headed to Renfrew in search of adventure and another season of hockey and found the love of his life, Lynn McVicar, and an appreciation for the Ottawa Valley.
Although architecture was his ambition, Bob soon joined Sears Canada where he had a long career through the decades of expansion and growth.
Leaving Sears in 1983, Bob and Lynn built a lakeside home near Renfrew and were fortunate to enjoy many fine years around friends and family in their retirement.
Bob had natural athletic ability, enjoyed the outdoors, and probably never saw a baseball field he couldn’t love. He continued to play slow pitch, both locally and in Florida, into his 70s.
Although the last few years included a number of health challenges, Bob lived a good life in his own terms. He was
well liked and respected by all who knew him. Bob’s passing has left a void but memories of his life and love will remain an inspiration.
Cremation has taken place and Bob will rest with Lynn at the White Lake cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held privately.

  1. Sharon and Randy and Family
So sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. We just saw the great write up in the Eganville Leader. I will always remember hearing about his athletic ability and his baseball run with the Blue Jays. I also remember Your grandmother Jessie always telling my Mom about your Mom and Dads travel to Florida for spring training.
Thinking of you. Sending our sympathy, thoughts and prayers.
    Ann (Denniston) and Jim McGregor
