Robert Douglas “Bob” Burgher
1937-2021
Robert Douglas
“Bob” Burgher – age 84, of Port Williams,
passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2021 in the Valley
Regional Hospital, Kentville.
Born in New Minas in
1937, he was a son of the late Maynard and Ruth (Starratt)
Burgher.
A proud Acadia
University Alumni (1957), he went on to study at NS Tech in Halifax
where he met his future wife of 57 years, Sylvia Steele. Ready to
start his life with Sylvia, he started his career with the Fisheries
Department in Halifax and briefly worked for Canada Packers in Toronto
where they started their family. The love of the Valley was strong so
they returned and he had a successful career in the pulp and paper
industry, retiring in 1996. His career involved travelling and he had
many friends and colleagues across the country. Sylvia and his family
were always his priority and he enjoyed being “on the
road”, travelling with Sylvia or taking his kids, and
eventually his grandkids, to horse shows, music and dance recitals,
hockey and curling rinks. He had many special friends through his
involvement with Kinsmen, K-40 and the Port Williams Baptist Church.
“Bob the Builder” enjoyed wood working and as a
retirement project, built a family cottage at Murphy Lake. He found
joy in gardening, fishing, camping and cottage time.
He is survived by son,
Alan; daughters, Karen (Greg MacLellan) and Debbie (Aaron MacIntyre);
grandsons, Patrick and Matthew MacIntyre; granddaughters, Cory and
Kathryn Burgher; daughter-in-law, Darla Burgher; sister, Marie
Burgher; sister-in-law, Peggy Steele; brother-in-law, Eric Steele;
nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and
parents, he was predeceased by a brother, George and brother-in-law,
Murray Steele.
