Rita’s Obituary
Rita Delaye of Moose Jaw passed away on February 7, 2021. She was born and raised in the Radville area in 1921. Predeceased by her husband Emile and several brothers and sisters. She will be missed by her children Yvette (Ken) Storozuk, Celine (Joe) Bauer; grandchildren Kelly (Shelly) Storozuk, Terry (Cori) Storozuk, Chris (Lisa) Storozuk, Kim (Ago) Gonzalo, Tanya (Ryan) Duke and Heath (Krista) Bauer; numerous great grandchildren; sister Yvonne (Glen) Hoimyr; brother Albert Cherpen as well as nieces and nephews. She lived the struggles of the dirty thirties, married a farm boy, and retired in Moose Jaw. She loved to entertain and cook for their many friends and relatives. Her passion was playing cards. Her strength of character came from within. She was always there to lean on and lend a helping hand. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and the staff of Extendicare for the exceptional care she received. Due to Covid restrictions no funeral will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined. In living memory of Rita, a memorial planting will be made by Jones – Parkview Funeral Services.
TRIBUTE TO AUNTIE RITA
In loving memory, we celebrate the life of a wonderful lady. A friend to all who knew her. She was one of ten children. She survived the blazing prairie fires of the 30’s. She was shy, hard working and not one to complain. She took up work as a housekeeper at Emilien’s parents where she met the love of her life. They were married November 4, 1943 at Souris Valley, then off to Regina for their honeymoon. She lived on the farm having a huge garden and fruit trees spending many hours making preserves, while still finding time to milk cows and help with the harvest. Like many generations they had no running water and no electricity. She spent six months bedridden with T.B. Emilien had T. B. twice and was sent to Fort San for treatment. Rita did not bother to complain she simply and ambitiously carried on with the farm work with the help of a hired man. Through all this the family still found time to kneel every evening to pray the rosary. At one point they owned a General Store which she helped in. She was kind and gentle to her moth-in-law who lived with them. In 1968, they moved to Moose Jaw and true to her character she welcomed nieces and nephews into their home while they attended school. The door was always open, and you never got to watch her prepare a meal somehow it just seemed to happen. Rita worked in a private care home for a short time. She took care of her husband who had Alzheimer’s. I can assure you this was no easy task. Rita was surprised and happy when she walked in the Senior Games and came in first. She was proud of her grandchildren and love to spend time with them. As they got older, they would stop in to play cards, this was the highlight of her day. It was a bonus when the great grandchildren came along as they also loved to play cards with her. Her famous saying was “au la la or I need the pics” or as the grandchildren remember “shoot the bear”. She loved fishing, on a fishing trip every time she put her line in she caught a fish which kept Ken busy. He had to give her his line and take the fish off. She laughed and laughed. She had a great sense of humor as Celine and Emilien use to always play tricks on her. Rita loved to travel and was a joy to have along. She always insisted on buying a treat for us. In her last years at Extendicare she survived on chocolate and coffee. Today we say goodbye to a gentle, kind and polite lady. She will be held in our thoughts and prayers forever. -Emile Lalonde
