Ringer, Lilas Malcolm (née Robertson)
August 6th, 2021
Passed away peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2021, at the age of 97, with her devoted friend, Lenie Vandeloo, by her side. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 75 years, James “Jim” Ringer.
Lilas was the loving mother of Janet Barbara Truesdale (David, deceased), of Charleston, Illinois and Judith Ann “Judi” Farrelly (Steve), of New Orleans, LA. She was the proud grandmother of Erin Gillespie (Matt), Jim Truesdale (Teresa) and Kirk Farrelly (April). She was the great-grandmother of Madison and Jacob Gillespie, Lily Truesdale, and Easton and Patrick Farrelly.
Lilas was born in Dundee, Scotland on April 5, 1924, to Agnes Scott Robertson and Alexander Bissett Robertson. The family moved to Hamilton, Ontario when Lilas was very young. Lilas met Jim when she was 12 years old and they were married on February 23, 1946. They lived in Hamilton and then moved to Waterdown, Ontario after Jim built a house there. They lived there until 1965, when the family moved to Lima, Peru, South America. They returned to London, Ontario in 1970.
Lilas enjoyed baking, cooking, entertaining, attending concerts and plays, and playing golf and bridge. She loved socializing and exercising with her friends. Lilas and Jim travelled to many parts of the world together and spent many winters in Florida as “Snow Birds.”
The family would like to thank their close friends, Lenie and Tony Vandeloo, who have taken such wonderful care of Lilas and Jim for these past years, filling in for family who weren’t able to visit due to COVID-19 restrictions. Thanks also to Lilas’s swimming buddies for their visits to her in the nursing home. Cremation has taken place.
