Richard’s Obituary
The game of life called an unfair penalty on Richard when he was diagnosed with Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer at the age of 55. He was now faced with the toughest opponent he had ever encountered. He taught as how to play the game of life through determination and commitment and he never dropped the ball no matter how tough the opposition got. Surrounded by love, Richard passed away peacefully at his home in Paris, Ontario on Saturday June 19, 2021. He was 55 years young. Cherished forever by his beloved wife Jacqueline ‘Jack’ Stewart. Forever remembered son of Harold and Margaret Bachan. Beloved father of Brittney and Brady. Loved Stepfather of Christian (Tegan), Alex (Geraldine) and Rachel (James). Best buddy ever to his dog Maverick. Richard will be dearly missed by his extended family. Richard had two brothers by birth and he had many brothers through the game of football that he loved gained from time spent at the Mississauga Touch Football League.
Rich lit up the room with his beautiful smile, his laugh and his genuine kindness to all. He made the “bestest’ margarita ever. Today please smile at someone you don’t know, you never know if they need your smile. Rich always lived his life with that mindset and he was simply the sweetest soul. The world needs more guys like Rich who exuded a genuine kindness. He was a great man who loved his step-children as much as his own children. It was Rich’s absolute honour to be Christian, Alex and Rachel’s step-dad. We know that he is in heaven and has finally got to sit down and enjoy that Keg steak that he had wished for since taking ill.
Thank you to Dr. Kim for going above and beyond the call of duty. He fought so hard for Rich when others saw defeat. Dr. Kim never quit and provided Rich and his family with absolute hope. We were determined that we were going to beat Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. In the end, it was Dr. Kim’s immense compassion and support that made Rich’s final days peaceful. Rich held Dr. Kim in the highest regard.
Rich also wanted us to extend a huge thanks to Stewy for his support over the years. It is Rich’s hope that Jack and Stewy find peace and compatibility for all the great events before them with Christian, Alex and Rachel.
Rich was the Pittsburgh Steelers # 1 Fan and our family have all fallen in love with them because of him.
