Rex Primmer Friday August 27th 2021

George Rex Primmer
April 5, 1934 – August 27, 2021
Passed peacefully away Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls, NL, George Rex Primmer, 87.
Leaving with fond and cherished memories are his beloved wife Betty (nee Mullins), proud children Brenda, Bev (Doug McKee), Karl (Mary), and Steve, much loved grandchildren Ryan McKee, Dan and Sam Primmer and special sisters Molly and Olwen.
Predeceased by parents George and Louise, brother Keith, son David and brother-in-law Bill.
Rex was born in Joe Batt’s Arm, Fogo Island in 1934. After attending Memorial University Rex settled in Gander, NL in 1953 where he met, married Betty and started a family. He enjoyed a lengthy career with Pan American Airlines, Allied Aviation, Eastern Provincial Airways, Canadian Airlines and Air Canada. He retired from the aviation industry in 1988 only to begin a new career as a guide pursing his true passions – salmon fishing, hunting and the outdoors. Rex enjoyed fishing on the Gander River and in Labrador, fly tying, rod building, hunting in Kaegudeck and snowmobiling all the corners of the island and was fortunate enough to continue doing what he loved every day of his life.
While he spent considerable time in the pursuit of salmon, Rex spent as much time instructing others on the finer points of fly fishing, making fishing rods for friends or tying thousands of salmon flies that he regularly delivered to the lucky each year. A conversation with Rex rarely did not involve, at some point, discussing some aspect of fishing or the outdoors.
While Rex was an accomplished outdoors man he was also an outgoing man who had many friends that he and Betty regularly gathered and travelled with. Trips to other parts of the island, other provinces and the United States were a regular occurrence.
Special thanks are extended to the nurses of Unit 2A and the ICU of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and to Drs. Kamel, Price and House for their exceptional care and support.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held Tuesday August 31st 11- 6. Due to Covid 19 restrictions we ask you for your patience during this time.
There will be a private family gathering at a later date. To send a message of condolences, please visit www.staceysfuneralhome.ca.
