Obituary of Reuben Oliver Rose
Reuben “Oliver”Rose, 75, of Bishop’s Falls, NL, passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 13, 2021 in Grand Falls -Windsor.
Oliver was born in Salmon Cove to Reuben and Lilly-May Rose on January 4, 1946. He went to high school at Riverside Elementary in Salmon Cove and went on to graduate from Memorial University with an Education degree. He taught at Inglis Memorial High School in Bishop’s Falls for 30 years. Oliver was active in municipal politics holding numerous titles from 1973-2002. Oliver was a natural-born leader, devoted family man, and a dedicated citizen of Bishop’s Falls.
Oliver was an active member of the community. His passions included the Bishop’s Falls United Church and The Bishop’s Falls Lions Club.
His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Oliver is survived by his loving wife Marie (Downton) of Bishop’s Falls, sons Sean (Owen), Jason (Wayne), special niece Amy (Rodney) who he loved as a daughter, sisters Lily King (the late Herb King) and Gladys Bussey (John), nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers Herman and Jack (Eileen) and Lindy.
Memorial donations may be made to The Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp in Bishop’s Falls or the Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Carmelite House, with special mention to Nurse Brenda Mills.
Following Covid 19 restrictions, visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 5 P.M. at Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop’s Falls. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, the funeral service will be by invitation only on Friday at 11 A.M. from The Sacred Heart Church, Bishop’s Falls.
Anyone attending the visitation or the funeral service, the families request is that you would be double vaccinated and have no flu like symptoms.
