Obituary for
René Emilien Samuel Péron
Peacefully, in his hundredth year on August 12, 2021 at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre. Born in Montreal on September 16, 1921. Predeceased by Dorothy, his loving wife of over 75 years, his parents, Silas Emilien Hippolyte Péron and Ella Duval St. George and his brother Fernand. Survived by his sister, Adèle Jacobs, and sister-in-law, Violet Vallières, his children Renée Paterson (David), Pierre (Janice Wasson), and Paul (Sylvie Guinard), his grandchildren, Kersti, Sean, Scott, Daniel, Mathieu, Nicolas, and Rebecca and 8 great grandchildren.
A graduate of Lower Canada College and McGill University, he began his career as a teacher but it wasn’t for him. He became a professional sales representative for manufacturers of electrical conduction systems and various other commercial building products and covered a territory which included Quebec and all Maritime provinces. A few years before deciding to retire at age 57, he dabbled in Life Insurance sales.
René always had a love for organ music. On Sundays, you would find him playing the organ at Eglise Baptiste Française de l’Oratoire where he took over from his father and continued for 37 years until he and Dorothy moved from Montreal to Sutton Quebec. He was a member of the Royal Canadian College of Organists and became a staunch supporter of the Kingston Theatre Organ Society when they moved to Bath, Ontario.
As patriarch of the Péron family, he was a staunch protector of the Péron name and, together with Dorothy, spent countless hours researching and gathering family history and amassing a family tree containing over 4,000 names and dating back to the 1500s in France. He was a life member of the Association des familles Perron d’Amérique, and member of the Société d’histoire du protestantisme franco-québécois the Quebec Family History Society and the Huguenot Society of America.
In retirement, he and Dorothy travelled extensively to France, Great Britain, and Australia, and camped in or visited every province and territory of Canada, and every state of the USA.
Donations can be made to Emmanuel United Church or to the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre Foundation in appreciation of the excellent care provided by the staff.

En paix, dans sa centième année, le 12 août 2021, au Centre de santé Perley et Rideau pour anciens combattants. Né à Montréal le 16 septembre 1921. Prédécédé par Dorothy, son épouse bien aimée de plus de 75 ans, ses parents, Silas Emilien Hippolyte Péron et Ella Duval St. George et son frère Fernand. Il est survéçu par sa sœur, Adèle Jacobs, et sa belle-sœur, Violet Vallières, ses enfants Renée Paterson (David), Pierre (Janice Wasson), et Paul (Sylvie Guinard), ses petits-enfants, Kersti, Sean, Scott, Daniel, Mathieu, Nicolas, et Rebecca et 8 arrière petits-enfants.
Diplômé du Lower Canada College et de l’Université McGill, il a commencé sa carrière comme enseignant mais ce n’était pas pour lui. Il est devenu représentant professionnel des ventes pour des fabricants de systèmes de conduction électrique et de divers autres produits de construction commerciale et couvrait un territoire qui comprenait le Québec et toutes les provinces maritimes. Quelques années avant de décider de prendre sa retraite à 57 ans, il s’est lancé dans la vente d’assurance-vie.
René a toujours eu une passion pour la musique d’orgue. Le dimanche, il jouait de l’orgue à l’église Baptiste Française de l’Oratoire, où il a pris la relève de son père et a continué pendant 37 ans, jusqu’à ce que Dorothy et lui quittent Montréal pour s’installer à Sutton, au Québec. Il était membre du Collège royal canadien des organistes et est devenu un fervent partisan de la Kingston Theatre Organ Society lorsqu’ils ont déménagé à Bath, en Ontario.
En tant que patriarche de la famille Péron, il était un ardent protecteur du nom Péron et, avec Dorothy, il a passé d’innombrables heures à rechercher et à rassembler l’histoire de la famille et à amasser un arbre généalogique contenant plus de 4 000 noms et remontant aux années 1500 en France. Il était membre à vie de l’Association des familles Perron d’Amérique, et membre de la Société d’histoire du protestantisme franco-québécois, de la Société d’histoire familiale du Québec et de la Huguenot Society of America.
A la retraite, Dorothy et lui ont beaucoup voyagé en France, en Grande-Bretagne et en Australie, et ont campé ou visité chaque province et territoire du Canada, et chaque état des Etats-Unis.
Des dons peuvent être faits à Emmanuel United Church ou à la Fondation du centre de santé Perley et Rideau pour anciens combattants en reconnaissance des excellents soins prodigués par le personnel.
