Bathurst- Mr. Raoul Guignard, husband of the late Melva Frenette of Brideau Avenue, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving children, Friday March 5th, 2021 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Henri and Ida (Vienneau) Guignard.
He is survived by his children: Bernard (Sue Moffatt) of Guelph, ON, Jacinthe (Philippe Hachey) of Tremblay, Jean-Antoine (Susan Aubé) of Bathurst and Serge (Michèle Benoit) of Fredericton. He adored his two granddaughters: Isabelle Melva and Marie-Olivia who brought him the greatest joy of life. He was particularly close to his sister-in-law, Dr. Ina Frenette who has always been there for the family and for Jean-Marc Landry, a friend of Serge whom he considered a son.
He is also survived by brothers: Yvon (Joan) of Dunlop and Jean-Claude (Francine Boudreau) of Beresford and his sister, Sr. Imelda Guignard, ndsc of Moncton, his in-laws, the Frenette family, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by two sisters: Sr. Stella, ndsc and Évangéline “Nine“ and by three brothers: Gérard (Anna), Laurent and Patrice.
The family would like to thank all their friends who have provided love and support since the passing of Melva in 2001.
Ralph was a purchasing agent for Belledune Fertilizer Plant until its closure after which he began working at the Smelter until his retirement in 1992. During his retirement he worked the parish offices of the former Our Lady of Mount-Carmel Church and Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Besides being a great father and grandfather, Ralph had a passion for singing. He was a member of the Voix du Nord choir. He was also a member of the choir at the former Our Lady of Mount-Carmel church for over 50 years. As a tenor, he had the honor of singing “O Holy Night” at Christmas masses for many years. Raoul also enjoyed camping at Kouchibouguac park and his seasonal spot at Camping Colibri in Caraquet where he created many wonderful memories.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, March 15, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com). The visitation is open to the public with social distancing measures in place. A funeral mass will be celebrated from Sacred Heart Cathedral by invitation only.
Donations in memory of Raoul may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
