Maranchuk, Randy
September 14, 1957 – September 29, 2021
It is with a sense of great loss that we announce the passing of Randy Maranchuk at the age of 64 on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Royal University Hospital after a brief battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare and fatal form of dementia. Randy will be lovingly remembered by his children, Christopher (Jenny, and their children, Drake and Abby), Douglas (Chelsea), Mark, and Shantel (and her son Denis), his parents, Edward and Ellen Maranchuk, his siblings, Dawne, Sharleen, Wanda Schmidt (Ron, and their children, James Schmidt (Christelle Pécher, and their daughter Emma) and Ryan Schmidt (Aliesha, and their children, Cohen and Renly), Alanna Martens (Bryan Allen), and his partner in life, Verna Guenther and her children, Nicole Guenther (and her children, Oliver, Zoey and Maverick), and Pam Guenther (and her daughter, Alayna), and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. We will all miss Randy’s great sense of humour and charisma – he sure loved to laugh. Randy was a hard worker and a loyal friend to many. He spent the last 22 years working at Thane’s Big-T in Saskatoon and developed a special friendship and bond with Thane. Randy had a great love for anything mechanical, music, race cars, camping, and family get togethers. How he loved to pull things apart, even if not broken, to see if he could figure out how to put it back together the same way. One of his greatest joys in later life was the cabin he purchased at Grandview Beach – it was his baby. In the true spirit of Randy, we are sure he is now at peace, looking down on all of us, giddily rubbing his hands together and saying “sure, it took this for all my family to get together”. A sincere thank you to all the medical professionals and staff for all of their efforts, care and compassion during his short time at RUH. The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date in his memory.
