Randall’s Obituary
CAMERON, Randall Edgar – 86, our family sadly announces the passing of Randall Cameron on March 12, 2021, at home surrounded by family.
Randall was born in Spry Harbour on September 19, 1934, the son of the late Murray and Josephine (Adams) Cameron. Even though he lived in other places throughout his life (Truro, New Glasgow, Halifax and Middleton), the Eastern Shore always held a very special place in his heart. Randall was dearly loved by his family and his many friends. Over the years, he connected with people through his work as an insurance adjuster and through his varied interests – playing ball for the Brookfield Elks, curling (including with the Mayflower and the Middleton Curling Clubs), golfing, snowmobiling, and serving with the Rotary Club to name a few. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met and treated even new acquaintances like old friends. He made friends easily and those friendships endured. He loved to catch up with people he had met throughout the various stages of his life. For anyone who went anywhere with Randall, it seemed like he knew everyone, and everyone wanted to stop and talk with him. His family was the light and center of his life. He adored his best friend and wife of 50 years, Sybil, and had endless love and pride in his children Brian, Scott, Lisa, and Melissa. He loved seeing his grandchildren grow up and spending time with his great-grandchildren. He was also extremely close to his extended family, including his brother Gary and his cousins on the Eastern Shore. His happiest moments were spent with his family and friends around him, laughing and telling his much-loved stories.
Randall was most at home in the outdoors, whether it was fishing at Bunker Hill, hiking in Gros Morne, walking the beach at Taylor Head, or cutting new trails through the woods at his home in Nictaux. He loved being active and, after his retirement, he took pride in being the oldest person picking apples in the orchard at Spurr’s (well into his 80s), working out at the fitness center in Greenwood and taking daily walks right until his last month.
Randall believed in hard work, dependability and treating others with kindness and respect. He lived in the moment and took joy in life’s everyday moments, whether it was singing along with his favorite songs, watching his favorite sports on tv, laughing with his friends and family, walking in the woods or telling his family how much he loved them.
He had a presence that was larger than life and his loss leaves a hole in our lives that will never be filled but our hearts are eased by the smiles and laughs that inevitably come from remembering all of the “Randall stories.”
He is survived by his wife, Sybil; his sons, Brian (Ginny) and Scott; his daughter, Melissa Chan (Level); his grandchildren, Lisa Lloy, Sonja Cameron, Janelle Teichgraber (Sean), Kayla Roode (Kelsey), Richard Roode (Shannon); great-grandchildren, Luca, Dax, Nova, Destiny, Kobe and another great grandson due to arrive shortly; brother, Gary, large extended family, and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Owen; daughter, Lisa Roode; grandson, Deke Cameron; and granddaughter, Kristen Beaton and her unborn child. We want to thank all the people who helped us keep him comfortable at home until the end with a special thanks to Dr. David LaPierre and to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses.
A celebration of Randall’s life will take place at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses – Annapolis Valley Branch or a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
