Phyllis’ Obituary
The family of the late Phyllis Kozun announce her passing at the Canora Hospital on May 12, 2021, at the age of 68 years.
Phyllis was born to Steve and Marie (nee Danyluk) Chalus on September 25, 1952, in Canora, SK. She attended Wysla School until grade 7 and then completed her years of education in Canora, SK.
On November 15, 1968, she married Richard Kozun. Together on the family farm, they raised two children, Robert and Shelley. They stayed on the farm until 1990, when they moved to Canora, SK. In addition to working on the family farm, Phyllis worked at the Lunn Hotel and the Gateway Lodge. She was employed at the Gateway Lodge dietary department for twenty-four years until her retirement in June of 2009.
Phyllis was an active member of the Gateway Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president until her passing. She was also an active member in the St. Andrew’s United Church. When her health allowed it, she participated in as many activities as she could with both organizations. Her biggest passion was her family. She loved following the accomplishments of her grandchildren and bragged about them every chance she got.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Marie Chalus; husband, Richard Kozun; sister, Iris Smud; and brother-in-law, Orest Romaniuk.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Patricia) Kozun of Yorkton, SK and Shelley (Lawrence) Barabash of Preeceville, SK; grandchildren: Meagan (Cole Chorney) Barabash of Martensville, SK and Devin (Shallen) Barabash of North Battleford, SK; great-granddaughter, Bradie Barabash of North Battleford, SK; sisters, Sylvia Romaniuk of Allan, SK and Katherine (Walter) Antoniw of Winnipeg, MB; brother, Metro (Janice) Chalus of Yorkton, SK; and brother-in-law, Mike Smud of Yorkton, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
