Obituary
Philip McWalters was a loved Dad, Husband, Grandad, Uncle, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by many who knew him for his sense of adventure, kindness and hardworking attitude in life.
Philip grew up in Leigh, England with four siblings and left home at the age of 20 to come to Canada to have the experience of a lifetime. He heard the call of the wild and worked in mines in the Yukon where he met his wife, Janet in Dawson City – they went onto owning and working their own goldmine for a few years shortly after they were married. They then settled down in lower mainland of BC and had two children, Natasha and Nicole. The family moved to Hinton in 1992 for Phil to work as a heavy duty mechanic at Gregg River. He retired from Teck Coal in 2011.
Philip would spend his time with his family enjoying the outdoors and the Canadian Rockies. He had a good sense of humour and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. His stories of his adventures working in remote communities in northern BC and around Dawson City always ended in a laugh. His fearless attitude towards life was admired by many and his determination brought a life well lived.
Philip leaves behind his wife Janet Fissel, his two daughters Natasha (Gary), Nicole (Conner), his grandchildren Gavin, Inara and Grayden, his brothers Tony and David (Christine), and his sisters Josie (Steven) and Jayne (Gary) & beloved dog Charlie. Philip was predeceased by his mother Annie, his father Fred and his sister-in-law Margaret. He will be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins and many nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Muthanna and the nurses of the Hinton Health Care Centre for the compassionate care.
If desired, donations in memory of Philip to Hinton SPCA are always appreciated.
