It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Philip Douglas Eavis, age 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Monday July 19, 2021 at his home.
Born in North Sydney, on August 23, 1942, Phil was the son of the late Clayton and Margaret (Strickland) Eavis. He was employed in construction as a pipefitter and steamfitter for many years. He was a member of Local #682 Pipefitters & Steamfitters Union. Phil was a volunteer fireman with the Frenchvale Fire Department for thirty-five years. In his younger days, Phil was an avid hunter – the boys couldn’t wait to get up to the cabin in Middle River every year. Throughout the years, his family was especially important to him. His sons’ education was a source of great pride, as were their accomplishments in their own lives and careers.
Phil is survived by his wife Karen (Lynk) Eavis, two sons Blair, Lower Sackville and Todd (Amber), Montreal, grandchildren Tyler, Vancouver, Bailey and Jade, Montreal, great grandchild Serena, a brother Tom Eavis, Sydney, sister-in-law Joan Eavis, North Sydney, and also by nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Phil was predeceased by brothers Cyril (Bonnie), Ronnie and Ward Eavis, also sister-in-law Yvonne Eavis.
The family would like to thank the health care professionals who provided such kindness, care, and support in recent years, with particular recognition for Dr. Kirkpatrick, Dr. Wawer, and Dr. Dodd.
By request there will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Phil’s name may be made to the Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J.
