Obituary for Peter McKenna
September 22, 1954 – May 22, 2021
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our father Peter McKenna. Peter McKenna was born September 22, 1954 on Fogo Island. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at his home on May 22,2021 after nearly a two-year battle with cancer.
Peter is predeceased by his parents Leo McKenna, and Rita McKenna, as well as brothers Augustine McKenna, and Paul McKenna. He leaves behind to grieve children Serena (Ted), Chad (Joanne), Amy (William), Evan and grandchildren Cameron, Emily, Colby, Jared, Aidanlee, Connor, Patrick, Ryder, And Amelia as well as brothers Don, Pat, Leo, Jerome, Cyril, Dorm, and Brian.
Peter grew up on Fogo Island with his parents and 9 brothers.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Peter spent many years as a guide in Newfoundland with Victoria Lodge in Millertown. He often told many stories about his years guiding. Peter moved to Port Moody British Columbia in 1998 and went on yearly hunting trips in Northern BC with his son Evan and their close friends.
Learning to play the guitar at a young age, Peter had a deep love for music and lyrics. Although he had appreciation for all types of music he loved country classics, blue grass, and especially Newfoundland Music. He always knew the perfect song for any situation that came up in life and would quote song lyrics to lighten the mood or at times give a different perspective. Peter could often be found sitting on his patio listening to music and spending time with good friends.
Our father was a kind man, who loved his family and friends, everyone felt welcomed when they were in his presence. There is a hole in our hearts that will never be filled, our father, guide, and friend will be forever missed and certainly never forgotten. Until we meet again sweet prince “Go rest high on that mountain”.
An informal celebration of life will take place at his home in Coquitlam on Saturday June 5, 2021 at 4pm.
