Obituary of Peta Dorothy Ruth Rich
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Peta Dorothy Ruth Rich (nee Ives) on Friday, July 16, 2021. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Melanie (Jamie) and Megan (Rick); grandchildren Tyson, Shay, Josh (Holly), Alex (Grace), Stephanie, Lisa (Dan) and Kim; great-grandchildren Adalynn, Mykonos, Oliver, Mearah, Marshall, Misha and Franki; siblings Jeanne (Ric), Larry (Dorothy), Jerry and Roger (Kim) and sister-in-law Joan; numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and so many wonderful friends. Peta was predeceased by her husband William “Toby”; parents Vera and Fred Ives; siblings Jiggs, Alison, Judith and Fred; parents-in-law William and Lydia Rich, sisters-in-law Jean, Edith, Linda and Midge; brothers-in-law Maury, Roy, Johnny and Jim; nephew Sean and niece Angie.
Peta grew up in Regina, attending Kitchener School and Scott Collegiate. She started her career as an elementary school teacher, eventually staying home to farm with Toby until their retirement in 2005 when they moved to Silton. Once settled, Peta took a turn at local politics serving on counsel and as Mayor of Silton.
Peta was an avid sports fan who loved watching football, hockey and curling. She cheered faithfully for the Riders but when it came to hockey or NFL, she would cheer for someone different every week, usually the underdogs. She played ball and curled in Craven and loved to play video games, board games and cards. She looked forward to her visits with all her different social groups and volunteered on committees. Each summer she would spend many hours outside tending to her garden and flowers. Growing vegetables she did not even enjoy just so she could make pickles for Toby or share with her friends. Peta was quite accomplished as an organist. Her first “gig” was a fashion show and then she became a regular at Silton United Church, local weddings and funerals.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Longlaketon Cemetery followed by a Come and Go Tea at the Silton Community Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Wintergreene Estates for their care and compassion as well as their support for her family. We also acknowledge the staff at Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, the Pasqua Hospital and Regina General Hospital for their care of Peta over the past year. Donations in Peta’s memory can be made to the Silton Community Hall, Silton United Church or Longlaketon Cemetery.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Peta
