Perry William Veinot Tuesday August 31st 2021

It is with deep sadness that the family of Perry William Veinot, 94, of Fauxburg, announce his passing on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. Perry passed away peacefully with his family by his side and in his heart.
Born in Fauxburg, Nova Scotia, Perry was the son of the late Arthur and Beatrice (Keddy) Veinot. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 66 years, Evelyn in 2017; sisters, Hazel, Frances, Mildred, Esther, and brothers, Sidney and Earl.
Perry is survived by his son, Stewart, Northwest; daughter, Darlene (Gary) Smith, Fauxburg; grandchildren: Benjamin (Sarah), Jodie, Jill (Aaron), Francine (Andrew), and Larry; beloved great-grandchildren: Madison, Henry, Abigail, and Malcolm; and many nieces and nephews. In his later years, Perry enjoyed chatting about the ‘good old days’ with nieces Rochelle Whynott, Heather Wagner-Brine, and Sandy Conrad, and nephews Dwight Veinot and Mike Kelley. These visits brought him special joy.
Perry was fondly known as “Puppie” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the absolute pride and joy of his life. He was also affectionately referred to as “Puppie” by the staff who cared for him at Ryan Hall, who quickly fell in love with his spunky nature and witty sense of humour.
Perry worked hard for everything in his life and approached his work with a level of determination and resilience that was second to none. He modeled willpower, strength, tenacity, with an unprecedented level of grit. Perry’s work ethic was forged as a young boy while doing chores for neighbours and helping to maintain his family farm. Later, he was employed at lumber camps with his brother, Earl, at Quality Poultry in Lilydale and with McVay Paceship in Mahone Bay. As years went on, he proudly helped to build the famous HMS Bounty and Bluenose II at Smith and Rhuland’s Shipyard. He retired after many years of dedicated service at National Sea Products in Lunenburg.
Perry was happiest while spending time outdoors. He believed fresh air, the sun, and exercise were the cure to anything. He valued and thrived at everything old fashion and farm-related, including splitting wood, making hay, and taking care of farm animals. He was passionate about growing vegetable gardens, berry picking, and watching ox pulls. He loved hand mowing along the Northwest Road, using one of his many cherished hand scythes. For three consecutive years, Perry earned the title of ‘Maritime Handmowing Champion’ at Ross Farm.
Perry will be remembered fondly for his love of dancing to old country classics, listening to fiddle music, storytelling (while trying to get a rise out of people), antique clocks, ox bells, plaid shirts, pickled meats, homemade pies and doughnuts, and the Christmas holiday. He will remain one of Wilf Carter’s biggest fans. Perry was known to speak his mind and enjoyed good banter. He loved his family with a fierce loyalty.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3 Lunenburg, where a service to celebrate Perry’s life will be held on Saturday October 2, 2021 at 2:00pm. Interment will take place following the service at the Northwest Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Perry to the Ryan Hall Recreation Fund or SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of Perry’s Home Support workers, especially Faye Garland, and his continuing care/nursing team at Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital. Sincere appreciation goes out to “Puppie’s” special friends at Ryan Hall, who treated him like family. Their compassionate and humorous approach to care made Perry’s journey a truly beautiful one.
