Pauline Agnes Hein (nee Gauthier) passed away on October 20, 2021, at the age of 82. Born in St. Malo on February 21, 1939, to Joseph and Evinelda Gauthier, Pauline was one of 15 children. She leaves to mourn many siblings, nieces and nephews, her son Serge, her daughter Carmen (Mitchell) and her beloved granddaughter Breanne.
As a child, Pauline worked hard on the family farm and helped care for her younger siblings. She became a registered nurse and worked in several hospitals. Pauline spent most of her career at Taché Centre in St. Boniface, where she shared her love of singing and dancing with the residents. After leaving nursing, Pauline went on to work at H. L. Softley School as an administrative assistant, where the students and staff brought her much joy.
She lived her life with an unrelenting “joie de vivre” and never let life’s challenges stand in her way. In life, Pauline was exceptionally creative and artistic; she loved to draw, paint, knit and write stories. Some of her stories, plays and poems were published in various newspapers, and in 2012, together with her creative writing group, Pauline published a poetry book entitled “So Many Petals.” One of the most cherished aspects of Pauline’s life was gardening. She took great pride in her flowers and ensuring her yard was picture perfect. Pauline enjoyed tending to her enormous garden, and delighted in sharing its harvest with family and friends. Music was a big part of her life. Pauline played the organ, sang in numerous choirs, and always filled her home with music.
Pauline was adventurous and loved to travel. At the age of 65, she travelled to Peru with her dear friend Corrine where she fulfilled a life long ambition to climb Machu Pichu. Pauline’s social calendar was filled with various activities including: dance lessons, Cercle Molière, curling, bowling and cross country skiing. She was also a member of many groups such as: the Association of Francophone Seniors and the Red Hat Society.
Avant tout, Pauline aimait sa famille et était très fière de Serge, Carmen, Mitchell et Breanne. Elle les a comblés d’amour, d’affection et de son temps. Elle pensait toujours au bien etre des autres et ne refusa a personne de son temps ni de son energie abondante.
Tous ceux qui l’ont connue se souviendront d’elle comme une personne humble, chaleureuse, positive et généreuse.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of her life will be held at Holy Rosary Church (510 River Avenue), on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 11:00am, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at 2:00pm at Glenlawn Cemetery (455 Lagimodiere Boulevard).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pauline’s memory, to the World Wildlife Federation.
