Patricia Alma Flood 1932 2021

Obituary of Patricia Alma Flood
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Patricia Alma Flood. She died peacefully on May 3, 2021 at Sunnyside Home in Kitchener with her family at her side, a few weeks before her 89th birthday.
“Trish” was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Hugh Wilfred Flood just last year. She was also predeceased by her siblings: David Latimer, Shirley Camelford, and Charles Latimer.
Patricia was a wonderful mother to six children: David (Kathy), Paul (Karen), Karen Biskey (Michael),
Dr. Diane Flood (Bruce McInnis), Michael (Valerie) and Ellen Heiman (Tyrone); 14 grandchildren: Lisa Flood (Mike Jukic), Michele Kamphuis (Tom), Mark Flood (Becky), Kevin Flood (Jun), Patrick Flood (Monika Posmyk), David Biskey (Maria), Anne Marie Pritiko (Matt), Laura Biskey (Luke), John Biskey (Shayla), Tyler Flood,
Ben Flood, Matthew Flood, Denver Heiman, Taylor Heiman and nine great-granddaughters.
Patricia was born May 24, 1932 in Smiths Falls, Ontario to the late Catherine McKegney and Wilbert Latimer. She grew up in Kingston, Ontario where she met Hugh while he attended Queen’s University. They married on November 7, 1953 and made their home in Kitchener and later Waterloo, where together they raised six children.
Patricia’s life was one of dedication to her family. She mastered all things domestic including baking, sewing, knitting and quilting. She often sewed tiny doll clothes in the evenings after a long day of looking after her family. She was an avid reader and loved historical fiction. When her family was young, she made weekly trips to the bookmobile for her stash of books, though one wonders where she found the time. Patricia loved all children but none as much as her own. She never missed the occasion of a birthday or milestone to show her love or the chance to tell you she loved you more.
Patricia was a longtime volunteer at St. Mary’s and Grand River Hospitals in Kitchener and a member of
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Waterloo. When her children were grown, she worked part-time at the University of Waterloo bookstore and took up the game of golf to join her husband as a member of Westmount Golf and Country Club. She never acquired her husband’s skill for the game, but she certainly enjoyed après golf or a good game of bridge.
The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at Sunnyside, whose care and compassion for Patricia was always apparent. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Pat, who was Patricia’s daily companion, devoted caregiver and lifeline to family during the difficult months of the pandemic. Pat facilitated morning phone calls to loved ones and ensured that Patricia was dressed elegantly for the day and ready for her late afternoon glass of wine.
Patricia accepted the challenge of several years of declining health with dignity and grace. She continued to say “I’m so lucky” though her children knew they were the lucky ones. Thank you, mom. Your work is now done.
Since family and friends are unable to gather at this time, Patricia’s life will be celebrated when restrictions subside. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, if desired, donations to the Sunnyside Foundation would be deeply appreciated. Online condolences and donations may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519.745.8445.
