Obituary
Patricia May (Fuller) Beat
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia May Beat (Pat). She died at home on November 23, 2021, comforted by the presence and love of her family. Pat faced her too-quick death from cancer with the same grace, courage, and sass that she lived her 79 years.
Pat was born to Carrie and Charles Fuller on July 25, 1942 in Trail, BC. Pat loved her brothers Stan, Cliff, and Clayton, and was the apple of her father’s eye. When Pat was 10 the family moved to Quesnel, BC, where she soon made many life-long friends and met the love of her life James Beat.
Jim and Pat married on October 25, 1962 in Quesnel, BC. They soon welcomed three daughters, Deanna Joy, Laurel Dawn and Shannon Coleen. Their family complete, they followed Jim’s work to Kamloops, then Prince George, before finally settling in Chetwynd for 14 years. In Chetwynd, Pat was very involved with her church; singing, playing piano and keeping the books. She was active with the Community Arts Council and enjoyed exploring both oil and acrylic painting, home decor, and sewing for her family and home. A phenomenal cook and gracious hostess, Pat expressed her love through food and a warm welcome to all.
As the children grew up, Pat returned to work, first in the girls’ elementary school library, then as high school secretary, and continuing through office administration roles for 30 years.
After retirement, they travelled in their RV for years, then settled in Nanaimo, BC, where Pat loved the proximity to the ocean, reconnecting with dear friends, and meeting new ones – including their new church family.
In truth, it was often hard to find Pat and Jim at home in Nanaimo; together they explored Vancouver Island and much of the rest of the world over the years, often with dear friends and family joining them. Pat had an adventurous spirit, and never missed an opportunity to jump in an ocean or let her face soak up the tropical sun. She recognized her God in everything. Pat revelled in spotting giraffes in Africa, sailing the Greek Isles, swimming in the Caribbean, and shopping the riverside markets of Europe. She saw spectacular sights around the world but would also find beauty in a tiny shell, a new flower in her garden or the precious faces of her grand and great-grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her loving husband Jim; her three daughters Deanna (son in law Don), Laurel, and Shannon; grandchildren Joshua, Natasha, Nathan, Brayton (Kylie), and Wyatt; and darling great-grandbabies Raelynn and Gavin. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Clayton (and sister in law Jan), Jim’s siblings Gene (Victoria), Sylvia (Elmer), Bernietta (Brian) and Ruth (Gerald), brother in law Dan, and many nieces and nephews
