On September 2nd Patrica Anne White passed away a day before her 79th birthday.
Born Sept 3,1942 to Larry and Mary Donovan, Gran as she came to be known once her grandchildren began to arrive lived in Longbranch the entirety of her life. There, her beloved brother Barry introduced her to the love of her life Bob. She raised three children Tracy, Kim and Larry. Aways happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren Tyler, Meghan, Kimberley, Daniel, Jake and Dylan, and great grandchildren Norah and Ward. Welcomed into Bob’s family by Smokey and Bert and Joyce and George.
Known for her ability to always make everyone welcome in her home, somehow stretching Sunday dinner so that no matter who showed up everyone ate well. A great cook and even better baker.
Gran was caregiver extraordinaire when her grandchildren were young, morphing into number one fan and supporter as they grew up and pursued their many activities – baseball being a favourite. Mom and Bob would attend every event they could to cheer on the kids.
Holidays were extra special as the craft supplies came out to make decorations and gifts, no one was exempt we all had to create something.
She spent many years at CAMH as it is now known, manning the switchboard. She loved her colleagues many of whom became close friends over the years.
Simple things made her happy, cheap and cheerful road and camping trips with Barry and Bob, kids in tow. Super Bowl weekends in Kincardine with dear friends where they inevitably got snowed in. Summer days in the above ground pool in the backyard full of kids and friends. Sitting on the porch having a smoke and scratching a few lottery tickets. Playing cards after dinner if she could scrounge up a foursome to play Euchre. Just sitting around visiting, catching up. Wandering the aisles of the dollar store or even the grocery store or Costco, she did love to shop. Watching the Jays game, checking in with her beloved cousin Jeannie. Filling every candy bowl she could find with the kids favourite sweets (how she kept track of who liked what is a mystery but she did). Sunday dinner with with Barry and Joan, or even just a cup of Tim Hortons if that was what she could manage, it was just important to connect.
We will dearly miss her physical presence, but are comforted by the times we shared as we continue to hold her in our hearts.
