It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Oscar Frank Symes, at the age of 91. Frank was born in Prince Rupert, BC on
December 24, 1929 and he spent most of his childhood growing up on the family farm in Smithers. In 1950, at the age of 20, he married his forever sweetheart, Shirley, and they remained in love, and hand in hand, until his death.
In 1956 they moved with their two sons, Bob and David, to Prince Rupert where their family continued to grow and Frank became a fire fighter and then a building inspector. They then moved, with their two youngest boys, Donald and Steven, to Duncan, BC in 1973, where Frank became the building inspector for North Cowichan, until his retirement.
After retirement, Frank enjoyed camping, traveling across Canada and the USA, painting, coffee with friends, and spending time with his family. Frank is predeceased by his son Robert (Bob). He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley; his sons David, Donald (Elan), Steven (Corrine) and daughter in law Marjorie; his grandchildren Scott, Gavin, Courtney, Connor, Amy and Shayla; and great grandchildren Jack, Evan, Henry, Hattie and Raife. He will also be remembered by his sister Margaret and her family, his sister in law Pat, and many close friends. Frank was a man of honour, integrity and humour, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
