Olive Marguerite Lily Cromartie Saturday October 9th 2021

Olive Marguerite Lily Cromartie, late of Birch Hills, SK passed away at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on Saturday, October 9th, 2021, at the age of 100 years. Olive Marguerite Lily Cromartie was born on January 4th, 1921, in Kentville, Nova Scotia to parents Leigh and Lillian Hebb. The family moved to the Estlin-Gray area of Saskatchewan where her parents ran grocery stores until their last store burnt down in 1931. They moved to a farm in the New England District near Birch Hills where she attended school. Olive married Melville Cromartie on December 1st, 1941. They farmed in the Fisher District where they raised their two children Bev and Melanie. They both loved music and started a group known as the “Melodiers” with the Tilsley’s and Ken Manson. They played at dances and gatherings in the Birch Hills and Prince Albert area for several years. After Mel’s death in 1979, Olive moved to Birch Hills where she resided until 2018, then she moved to River Breeze Retirement Home in Prince Albert. Farming was a big part of Olive’s life and she continued to be very involved on the farm even after her move to Birch Hills. Olive was active with the St. Mary’s and St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, Birch Hills Curling Club, Birch Hills Golf Club, Birch Hills Legion Auxillary, and for many years volunteered at Birchview Home.
She is survived by her son Bev (Maxine) Cromartie, her daughter Melanie (Brian) Reynolds; five grandchildren Shelley (Mike Kerkowich), Gordon, Marcia (Corey) Apesland, Jennifer (Sterling) Parson, Kimberly (Travis) Shumka, Kristy (Shane) Kinsman; ten great-grandchildren Riley Gordon, Shelby (Tyler Balan), Gordon, Asa Parson, Rhett Parson, Lauren Nash, Mallie Apesland, Caelan Apesland, Mark Krekowich, Adam (Bonnie) Kerkowich, Ian (Tawny) Kerkowich; six great-great-grandchildren Owen Kerkowich, Kasey Kerkowich, Luke Kerkowich, Bria Kerkowich, Aubrynn Kerkowich, & Eva Balan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Olive was predeceased by her husband Mel; her parents Lillian (Leigh) Hebb; her parents-in-law Belinda (Albert) Cromartie; her brother Hap (Peggy) Hebb; her sister Joyce (John) Manson; her infant brother William; her sister-in-law Mary Robinson; her brother-in-law Stan Robinson; nephew Harvey Robinson; her grandson Shawn Gordon; & her great-granddaughter Ainsley Nash.
A funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the St. Saviours Memorial Fund (send to Bev Cromartie, Box 518, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0) or to the charity of your choice.
